International Women in Engineering day
Today is the International Women in Engineering Day. We are proud to say that in our Architectural practice we have two female colleagues with an Engineering background.
Kate Millen is a MEP and Environmental Engineer with over 30 years of experience.
Kate has been supporting design in astudio since 2007. As her role as an Associate Director she is a key part of the management team steering the practice. Prior to this, Kate was a Mechanical Design Engineer and Partner at Hoare Lea, where she led the engineering teams designing major projects such as Bishops Square and Neo Bankside. Kate supports astudio in design, providing in depth environmental and sustainability advice as well as design coordination and integration of engineering systems. Kate is an influential member of our project review panel, ensuring sustainability is embedded in design and delivery of all our projects.
Viola Maffessanti has been part of astudio since 2012. As an associate at astudio she specialises in sustainability. Through her years as an architect her interest in sustainability has grown progressively stronger. Some years after finishing her studies, her interests took her back to university to study and gain an MSc in Environmental Design and Engineering at UCL. Her motivation is to combine high-quality design with the best possible environmental solutions, creating beautiful positive architectural contributions. Since 2018 she has been apart of the Sustainability group with Kate and with her involvement in the Digital Innovation – Environmental Modelling team, spreads knowledge of environmental design and environmental parametric across the practice.
We wish you all a great International Women in Engineering Day with the sincere hope that more women will feel no barriers to approach such disciplines, so that we can contribute together for a better and more sustainable world.
